Velocity Football will host its inaugural Summer Football Tour to Marbella in July as part of its commitment to delivering a fun, engaging and well-rounded programme to students.
Sixty students and their coaches will travel to Spain’s south coast for the tour which will include playing competitive fixtures against local teams, daily training sessions and extra-curricular activities including a local stadium tour.
The trip will coincide with end-of-term celebrations to mark the achievements of students who joined the Oxford City FC-based educational academy in September and those who are graduating from the course.
Jordan Piper, Lead Coach at Velocity Football, said the tour will fulfil Velocity’s aspirations to help students become the best version of themselves both on and off the pitch.
“Students have again gone above and beyond by committing themselves to their professional and personal development with Velocity Football this year,” said Jordan.
“Although we still have our summer term to complete, we are proud of the achievements made already this academic year and look forward to celebrating this at our upcoming end-of-term tour.
“None of our students have previously had the opportunity to play football and train in Spain, so this is a unique chance for them to take part in an environment which is outside their typical day-to-day surroundings.
“In partnership with our sister company Ignite Sport, we’ve lined up a packed programme of activities which will broaden our core focus of providing fun and educational experiences to our students.”
Revamped in August 2020, Velocity Football combines education with full-time training and competitive matches for 16-23 year olds interested in fulfilling a career in sport.
The programme is suitable for male and female students and hosts apprenticeships, BTEC, HND and HNC students plus alternative provision learners and placements in partnership with local schools.
Graduates benefit from the programme’s pathway to higher education and university, careers in a wide range of roles in sport and professional playing opportunities.
Jordan added: “Velocity Football is the only programme of its kind in Oxfordshire.
“Not only can we work with young, enthusiastic, learners who want a career in the sports sector later in life, but we also support the development of talented young players dreaming of playing the game professionally.
“This well-rounded approach is what appeals to so many prospective students and plans to make our fourth year of delivery a success are well underway.”
