Less than a week remains until Velocity Football welcomes students to our inaugural induction day, and you can still be part of the journey this academic year.
Places remain available on both the full-time male and female programmes led by former professional footballer Mickey Lewis and current Oxford United Women’s captain Lauren Haynes. The BTEC courses are the only ones of their kind in Oxfordshire and offer students the chance to join Oxford City FC’s football academy, undertake wider development and coaching modules, and receive academic education for future employment or university.
Induction day will take place on Wednesday, September 2, with the course officially starting the following Monday, September 7. Velocity Football director Justin Merritt has been delighted with the response to the education programme’s launch and is encouraging post-GCSE students to get in touch if they are interested in the programme.
He said: “The response we have received to Velocity Football has been fantastic and even more so when you consider the challenges of COVID-19. We are ready to welcome students from a variety of backgrounds to our specialist football programmes.
“There is still time for students to book onto the male and female programmes, it is an ideal programme or post GCSE students interested in starting a career in either football or sport. If any teenagers and their parents would like a tour, or to book a meeting, or Zoom call to discuss their options we please do get in touch.
“Velocity offers students unique opportunities to gain real world experience during their time studying our programme through our partnerships and strong relationships with Oxford City Football Club, Ignite Sport UK, and Oxford Brookes University. We are looking forward to helping develop the next generation of players, coaches, physios, and the like.”
Based at Oxford City FC in Marston, Oxfordshire, Velocity Football combines coaching modules, academic education, and work experience within the football club while focusing on units including health and wellbeing, applied coaching skills, sports development, and sports psychology.
